H. McIntyre ST. THOMAS |
I
have to say that the ShoreTrips experiences were
wonderful! My friend
and I had a fabulous time on both ShoreTrips
excursions we took. The Snuba Underwater Adventure
was our favorite trip and it was very much worth the
price.
The weather was beautiful, albeit hot, but still
very perfect for a day for swimming. We found our
guides with ease. The guides were very knowledgeable
and friendly, and I felt safe during the entire
snuba adventure. I will definitely recommend this
trip for any beginners of the underwater trips. The
entire ShoreTrips process, payments, vouchers, and
all was worth it. The ease of the ShoreTrips
planning guides and bookings will persuade me to use
you again for future trips and recommend you to
anyone interested. Thank you to the ShoreTrips
staff, you, and your extended staff for giving my
friend and I a wonderful time at our ports of call! |

A
chance to learn about why St. Thomas has always been the Caribbean
center of commerce.
As with most of the
Caribbean islands, the history here goes back to about 600 AD, the
days of the Arawaks. Much, much later, Columbus sailed here and
reports of the island filtered back home. The Carib Indians appeared
and the never-ending struggle between the two tribes, along with
decades of wars with the Europeans trying
to conquer the island resulted in the ultimate success of the Dutch.
Danish settlement began in the late 1660's and several of the
original structures still stand. Your walk begins at the
Emancipation Gardens and you will be able to view the interiors of a
couple of these buildings.
As you tour with a guide from the Historical Trust, you will learn
about the architectural and historic aspects of this town, once
recognized as the second most populous city of Denmark.
The area is fascinating but also a strenuous climb. In your short
two-hour walk, you will take in at least 10 historical sites,
several of which will take your breath away. I guarantee that will
happen at least twice. The first will be your initial view from
Blackbeard's Castle, newly restored hotel. The second will certainly
be at the site of our meeting, the verandah at the Haagensen House.
As you continue your tour down towards the harbour and look back,
you will not believe where you were |

You
will kayak through mangroves and snorkel the coral fringed
nursery.
Upon your arrival at the
marina and adventure center, you will meet your guides, receive a
comfortable orientation, and become acquainted with your kayak. A
safety briefing will add to your ease and then you and your kayak
and your small group will be off.
Your kayak will be an easy-to-paddle sit-upon kayak. Your leisurely
glide along the mangroves will capture the attention of your eyes,
while your guide will feed you information about what you are
seeing. You will be able to explore the many islets while learning
of the ecosystem of the lagoon.
It will be difficult to remember that you are technically still in
the US as you look for large iguanas, and many birds including many
birds including egrets, herons, pelicans, frigates, terns, warblers
and hummingbirds.
You will find it an easy beach entry to begin your snorkel through
an area of a shallow coral fringed mangrove nursery. Viewing eagle
rays, turtles, juvenile barracuda, tropical reef fish and colorful
and abundant juvenile marine life is all consuming but you may
choose to choose to explore the coral beach.
A relaxing kayak trip back to your starting point will feel like
success. |

Get
the best of both worlds...see beautiful St. Thomas and then shop.
Does it get any better??
Unlike some other
islands, St. Thomas has an interesting typography. This 2 hour tour
includes the most scenic and historic spots of St. Thomas. Everyone
will have a great view from our small open-style safari buses.
The fortifications around town, Blackbeard's Castle, Blackbeard's
Hill and Old Stone Tower, were built during the 17th Century. You
will also see Mafolie Hill, Louisenhof Castle, and Drake's Seat
Overlook, where Sit Francis Drake was supposed to have kept watch
over his fleet.
You will travel up to Mountain Top, where the views span from about
1,500 ft. above sea level. There you will see the island of St.
John, the smallest of the U.S. Virgin Islands, along with the lovely
and mountainous BVI chain. Stunning views of Charlotte Amalie Harbor
dominate as you descend into town where you are free to shop or
return to your destination.
If you choose to walk the shops, our guide will arrange a time and
place to pick you up for your cruise ship return. |

coast, your guide will inform you of the island's customs, economy,
flora and fauna (watch for the donkeys) and you will be astounded at
the beauty of St. John. After Cinnamon Bay, you will stop at Trunk
Bay in the National Park to swim or sunbathe. Tell your driver when
you'd like to be picked up or head back into town to do some

horticulture contained within. On to Bordeaux Mountain, the highest
peak in St. John with a view of Coral Bay and the British Virgin

Feel
pampered while sailing and snorkeling and eating all the day long.
Of course,
after you disembark from your ship or leave your hotel, you will
make your way to the marina which houses this 65' sailboat. You will
be greeted with big smiles, an easy reaction to the sun that glows
on St. Thomas. Don't worry because even if you spot a couple of
clouds overhead, they are usually whisked away by the gentle winds
as you board this large sailboat for your adventure. As you are
handed a Mimosa or a Bloody Mary, you will be introduced to the
staff and hear a brief history of the boat.
The sails are raised and you will set off for St. John, which is
known for its gorgeous beaches. Breakfast pastries appear and you
can sit back and nosh your way to this famous spot. It will take a
couple of hours of sailing to bring you to your first snorkel, but
you won't have to worry about eating too much - your snorkel vest
will keep you from sinking!
You will have the option of swimming, snorkeling, sunbathing or
shelling the beach. When everyone is ready, you will reboard the
sailboat and discover what the crew was doing while you played. This
group cooks on board and they will have a beautiful Italian buffet
spread out for all. Something for everyone's tastes and plenty of
drinks, blended or not, from top shelf liquor. They brag about their
"nooners" and you will have to let us know what you think. I
couldn't try one - I was working!
Now might be a perfect time for a catnap, as the sails are once
again hoisted and you are directed to one of the uninhabited islands
surrounded by reefs, often Little St. James. Another exemplary
experience in the water will give you the feeling of satisfaction
that you have seen the best of the aqua waters of the USVIs.
Even if you closed your eyes for a minute during your last sail, you
will find it easy to do it one more time as your sailboat heads back
to it's home |

Our SNUBA
excursion was absolutely wonderful. Both my husband and I
were a little nervous, but now we both want to become
certified divers! SNUBA is the perfect excursion for those
that aren't quite ready for SCUBA but are getting a little
bored with the typical snorkeling trip. Oh, there were only
4 customers on our excursion, (my husband and I and another
couple), so everyone in the cruise ship cattle call lines
were envious!) By the way, many ships don't even offer this
excursion! |

You
can have your independence and still run with the pack on this
tour.
Picture yourself walking
on a beautiful stretch of beach surrounded by palm trees. The warm
sand sifts through your toes as you approach the water. That can be
you - and you will find that where the water meets the shore, a slew
of wave runners are languidly bouncing with the tide.
Now the real fun will begin. You will receive the rules of safety
and instructions for navigating your machine. You and your partner
will make yourself comfortable, as the others in your group are
doing, and then you will all be off and running.
Your trip will take you into the hearty mangroves of the island
which is flourishing with vegetation and wildlife. You will find
yourself in some open water as well as running along the coastline
as you follow in form one behind the other.
Meanwhile your guide is imparting the knowledge that seems to
accumulate when you live on an island - all about the ecological
system and the chain of survival.
At the appropriate time, everyone will have a chance to snorkel.
Gear and instruction are provided and the coral reefs and the fish
are a sight to behold.
Lots of fun!
