Stop and go
shopping around Castries.
St. Lucians have a natural
artistry which is evidenced by the wonderfully woven baskets, rugs,
and hats, decorated pots and ornate jewelery, often using natural
materials such as seeds. This artistic ability has been handed down
over scores of generations, with the earliest Arawak ceramics showing
ornate patterns and designs.
Today the artistry is best represented by painters such as the
internationally-acclaimed Llewellyn Xavier and the prolific Dunstan
Saint-Omer, whose religious works decorate many churches on St. Lucia.
Dunstan's son, Alwyn, designed the artwork on the map found all over
town. Wonderful potters like Augustus Simon and Urmie Persaud have
pieces that can be found at select spots.
Trust your guide to take you to those places to view the island's
talents. The studios, galleries, and shops will have rotating stock at
different times of the year. I encourage you to let your guide know
what you like and, if possible, you will be directed to locations that
fulfill your desires. |

The combination of
a helicopter and a minivan will give you the best perspective of St.
Lucia. Upon
disembarkation from your cruise ship, you will see your representative
waiting to take you on a ride through the hills and the valleys of one
of the most beautiful islands in the Caribbean. It is a very scenic
ride and will be counted as one important part of your day as you look
back in years to come. I say that from my own experience as I
visualize men on bicycles managing huge bottles of water and propane
as they maneuver up and down hills that are reminiscent of the Amalfi
coastline.
There are lovely scenic spots that allow for gorgeous photographs and
your driver will stop along the way as per your request to give you
the chance to capture the sights. The road snakes along the southwest
coast and is appealing for its pretty bays, its rural quality, and
picturesque fishing villages.
As you approach the largest settlement on the west coast, you will
find it in a valley that sits in the shadows of the famous Pitons, the
landmark that marks this island as St. Lucia. Soufriere is charming
and deserves a short tour before heading out to experience some of
island's celebrated features. Just outside of town are the bubbling
Sulphur Springs, with the world's only drive-in volcano. The Diamond
Botanical Gardens with lovely waterfalls and eighteenth-century
mineral baths are well-worth touring.
Along the way, your guide may stop to allow you a snack from a local
restaurant or street vendor. This will be at your discretion but we
encourage you to spend as little time as possible eating to avail
yourself to make the most of your day.
Your tour of Soufriere will end at its southernmost point next to one
of the massive Pitons, where you will be taken to a helioport to board
your helicopter for the return back to Castries.

This tour does
justice to a wonderful island full of culture and major natural
attractions.
Your driver/guide will be
as excited to see you as you are to find him. He has designed an
"experience" that will provide you with an unforgettable day. The
beginning is a view of Castries, the busy town of your arrival. A
scenic stop, one of many in the day, will allow you to take a picture
of your cruiseship surrounded by the dramatic green and blue backdrop.
As you head south along the coast, you will weave in and out of huge
growing fields of bananas and coconut palms. Steep hills and sharp
turns make this ride incredibly scenic as you pass through quaint
fishing villages. It is breathtaking. This is our only tour that will
make special stops along the way. Marigot Bay, one of the prettiest
natural harbors in the Caribbean, is famous for the expensive yachts
anchored there. Rather than driving by the Banana Plantation, you will
stop and learn a little about this fruit, its growing pattern and how
its shipped.
Your travels will take you through the village of Anse La Raye Village
where you might spot women washing clothes and bathing kids in the
river. Residents will wave and smile as you pass through. Only this
tour will stop in Anse-La-Voutte to see the locals make the Kassava
bread and you'll get a taste.
Through the Canaries and the town of Soufriere, which we found lovely,
to the Drive-through Volcano and Diamond Falls and the wonderful
Botanical Gardens where Napolean's wife Josephine took her sulfur
baths, you will travel absorbing the narration you receive from your
native guide.
Usually I find people nap on the return of most tours, but it will be
difficult to close your eyes and miss this unbelievable scenery as you
head back to Castries and the cruiseship pier. |

Enjoy the
excitement of the search for one of the world's greatest mammals.
St. Lucia
has its fair share of resident and visiting cetaceans. Pods of spinner
and spotted dolphins, Pilot, Sperm, False Orcas and other whales can
be seen in our waters. The success rate of sightings is quite high, so
join us in the exhilarating natural experience and feel the thrill as
they break the surface of the water. Relax in our fast
hydrophone-equipped boat and relish the rhythmic song of these
awe-inspiring mammals as they rise majestically from the ocean, an
awe-inspiring sight |

St. Lucia
recognized the need to expose this rich culture and developed this
opportunity for you. Your ship will dock in Castries and you
will soon find yourself winding through the beautiful hills and
valleys to the interior of the island. The lush tropical scenery gives
off a rich premonition of what is to come.
Upon your arrival at the Fond Latisab Creole Park, you will experience
Creole traditions and practices that are still enjoyed today. You will
be able to see the preparation of farine and cassava bread in the
ancient Amerindian manner. You can watch the traditional method of
cooking food on macambou leaves. Perhaps one of the St. Lucians will
let you help in catching crayfish in the rivers.
From log-sawing to the hypnotizing rhythms of the Creole music, you
will feel fully inducted into the traditions of this rich culture.
You might even be able to learn a few words of Patois, the language of
Creole heavily laced with French, African and English grammar. |

Let us show you
our favorite sites on this beautiful island.
This is a luscious day -
just writing about it brings me back to St. Lucia. Of course, the tour
starts on a catamaran so you can capture the extraordinary coastline
with your camera. Our guides will highlight the areas of interest as
you pass them. All of a sudden, you will be at the base of the Pitons,
as they eerily rise from the sea.
A visit to the Drive-In Volcano will educate you on how the island was
formed. On to a natural waterfall, where you might feel like you are
on the set for "South Pacific". Move on to a working plantation and
relive the culture and tradition of the 18th century plantation owners
as you enjoy a beautiful buffet lunch in an exotic setting.
The experience on St. Lucia would not be complete without the
opportunity to splash around its unspoiled waters or just relax and
digest everything while lingering on a hidden beach.
Although you think your adventure is coming to an end, your return
ride by 10 passenger open-topped jeep will take you through such a
beautiful portion of the island that you might feel as if you are
driving through the hills of Italy. You can sit back and relax while
you watch a mulitude of Kodak moments. Your driver will stop along the
way to let you capture a few.
Your tour may be offered in reverse order. Whichever you enjoy first,
we guarantee that the whole day will be memorable. |

Get the true
flavor of St. Lucia with this wonderful tour.
Travel down the West Coast
through fishing villages in your air conditioned van. It will be
difficult to miss the banana plantation and it is an amazing sight to
see all those bunches being readied for our stores.
You will be greeted by fabulous views of the Piton Mountains as you
descend into the old French town of Soufriere. The landscape of
rolling hills always reminds me of the vistas offering by the
countryside rides in Italy and France, dotted with little villages.
Your first stop is The Butterfly House, which will give you the chance
to walk among hundreds of butterfly species indigenous to the
Caribbean, Central and South America. This facility, one of the first
in the Caribbean, will mesmerize you as over 60 species float, swoop
and dance to classical music around you and often landing on you.
The setting of the magnificent Toraille Waterfall is the next stop,
where water falls over a hillside 50 ft. high and cascades into a pool
surrounded by a beautiful garden. You will have a chance to experience
this fresh-water pool at the waterfall's base.
Now refreshed, your nose will signal your approach to the drive-in
volcano as you near the Sulphur Springs. The steaming, bubbling holes
of the legendary sulphuric waters have had medicinal and rejuvenating
properties and it's easy to have your imagination make true the tales
of Empress Josephine's baths in this water.
You will see St. Lucia from a totally different perspective on your
return trip. Each time we took this drive, it never looked the same. |

This 140ft replica
of a 19th century brig will take you on a whirlwind tour of a glorious
coastline.There
are boats - and then there are BOATS. This impressive ship may look
familiar. It was used in the filming of ROOTS. It was christened in
1947 and functioned as a Baltic trader. Now it provides one of the
best excursions on this island.
The day begins with sail along the west coastline to Soufriere, a
charming old West Indian town dating back to 1713 when Louis XIV of
France granted the lands around Soufriere to the Devaux family.
Upon your arrival here, you will be fortunate enough to take a land
tour of the town and then venture into the Sulphur Springs, Diamond
Falls, and Botanical Gardens. We were so fortunate to meet Joan Devaux,
decendant of the original family, who has worked diligently to
maintain the excellence of this historical landmark. Do note the small
"bath" used by Napoleon's Josephine when you visit.
Your return trip to Castries includes a buffet lunch as well as time
to snorkel and swim. You will have a short visit in Marigot Bay, a
natural inlet and harbor full of extraordinary yachts. |

the steaming, bubbling holes of the sulphuric waters, said to have

Located in the
heart of St. Lucia's prime dive spot is this haven for water play.
Our shop is
an SSI Platinum Pro, PADI Dive Center and DAN (Divers Alert Network)
Partners in Dive Safety facility, located in the heart of the marine
reserves just north of the magnificient Pitons in St.Lucia. Founded in
1981, this shop has established itself as one of the world's top
diving destinations.
The location, on a soft, sandy beach is magnificent. Just feet away
from this full service facility is the Anse Chastanet Reef which is
part of the Soufriere Marine Management Area (SMMA). This reef, which
is home to more than 150 different species of fish is comprised of a
marine plateau and dramatic slopes that fall away to a depth of more
than 130ft.
Divers are guided by one of the instructors/dive masters to maximize
diver safety and enjoyment. These instructors have logged thousands of
hours in this marine preserve and will direct divers to incredible
sights.
Divers are asked to "look but don't touch". As this facility practices
preservation of its marine life, they ask that you leave even empty
shells on the sea bed. Great care taken not to touch or kick the
corals so hopefully the reef can be preserved for future generations
of divers to enjoy.
After your one-tank dive, or between your two dives, you will enjoy a
wonderful buffet lunch on the beach. Nature trails and the sandy beach
are available for your use.

This popular
activity is made more special due to the immense Pitons along the
coastline.
Kayaking has become a very
popular activity all over the Caribbean. It is safe, comfortable, and
gives a true feeling of connection with nature. Yet you need no
expertise to enjoy it. Our equipment, sea kayaks featuring rudders,
ergonomic seats, knee braces and carbon fiber paddles, allow you to
really enjoy the scenery you are passing in a safari-style group.
So you can get comfortable, we begin the tour will professional guides
who will teach you both on land and water the safety techniques you
need to feel secure. You will learn the basics, entering and exiting
the water, paddle strokes and balance, before you begin the tour.
To build your energy level for your afternoon kayak, you will enjoy a
great BBQ and then you will be ready to put on your safety gear. The
trip will hug the coastline at first and you will go over reefs that
expose the volcanic remains from the past.
We then return southward passing small isolated beaches and our
adventure centre on the way to Grand Caille Pointe. From here we can
look across the entire Soufriere Bay and see the majestic twin peaks
of the Pitons rising half a mile out of the sea.
You will return to our beach, where you can brag about your expertise
in kayaking, relax in a lounge chair, or snorkel the shallows.

Novice,
intermediate, and experienced riders can all ride this trail at their
own pace.
This island is one of the most beautiful we have seen. To ride through
the lush rainforest trails, the grounds of 18th century plantations,
and among incredible fruit trees will take your breath away.
The 12-mile ride, although a daunting idea to some, is exquisite. It
has been designed to accommodate every kind of biker. It has trails
and loops for beginners, intermediate, and experienced bikers so you
can all participate in one activity but at the level you are most
comfortable handling.
This course offers a skills area where you have the option to learn
the secrets of successful techniques used by experts under the
guidance of an instructor before exploring the trails.
For the experienced rider, single track loops were built to challenge
their skills. The test editor of Rodale's mountain biking magazine,
Matt Phillips, who has tested the trails, considered the entire
setting to be simply "incredible". |

A lite hike
highlights St. Lucia's Natural Forest.
The beginning of your tour
is the lovely drive through local rural communities that have a charm
and quaintness that is truly Caribbean. At the edge of the forest
preserve, you will be introduced to an expert in the typography of St.
Lucia and he or she will lead you for a 45-minute trail walk into the
forest.
Your travels into the heart of this rainforest will take you past
massive and majestic Gormier Trees, the Blue Mahaut, species of lichen
winding up tree trunks, wild anthurium lilies, wild nutmeg and flowers
that look truly exotic in their natural setting.
The sounds of the forest is another aspect you should not overlook as
the magnificent birdlife is so prevalent. The Mangrove Cuckoo, the
Scaling Breast Thrasher, the Black Finch, along with the St. Lucian
Parrot are just some of the frequently spotted feather friends.
If you are lucky, you might spot a boa constrictor or a row of bats
hanging from their cave. |

This tour takes
you to the Volcano, the Falls, the Gardens and returns you by
helicopter.
Look for your guide
holding your name card at the pier. He will be waiting to whisk you
off in an air conditioned minibus through the town of Castries on your
way south. After passing through the bustle, it will not take you long
to see the beginnings of a lovely ride.
Passing through the banana plantation is a ritual here - it signals
the beginning of the long trek that those bananas take to find their
way on top of your morning cereal. It's reassuring to know they are
handled so carefully.
Moving on through the hills and valleys of an island that reminded me
of the European countryside, you will enjoy the views overlooking
villages and bays of tropical water. Your arrival into Soufriere is
marked by a curve around one of the twin Pitons reminiscent of the
Amalfi coastline.
And it opens up your view to the charming village of Soufriere, where
the natural elements are bountiful. After your easygoing ride, the
brisk pace of town will make you eager to see the sights. From here
you will take in the beautiful Diamond Botanical Gardens and Falls,
the Soufriere Drive-Through Volcano. You might want to stop along the
way for a snack - just ask your guide.
As a matter of fact, you can ask your guide anything, as he will have

At the end of your touring, he will bring you to a helipad, where you
will board your helicopter and enjoy the views from above that you
witness on the ground. |
