| This
is the perfect opportunity to try 'canyoning' through a tropical
rainforest of Guadeloupe. Right from the ship, you are taken on a
breathtaking ride through the National Park. Your drive to
Gourbeyre, on the coast, is alone a reason for this tour. There,
after a little preparation, you will begin an easy 30 minute walk
into the rain forest. Vanilla, mangoes, tropical flowers surround
you. Another briefing will be held when you arrive at the RIVIERE
DU GALION. And then, going downstream, you follow your guide, by
foot, by swimming, by jumping in the basins... and by gliding on
the natural tobogans (FUN!). All the while, the water temperature
is 80 degrees. Within a few hours you are at the end of the canyon
and it's 20' big slide ending! This Trip Is a Blast! |

Discover
marvelous tropical sites on this very sporty and active day. This
busy day in the breathtaking island of Basse Terre will be
stimulating and fun for all. The day is based around water and, as
long as you enjoy that, you will have fun. You need not be good at
any of the activities, (therefore they will even let me
participate!); you just need to be adventurous. After your initial
introduction, you will begin with a hike down to the tropical
river, following the natural course of the river, until you see
the most superb floral park. You will probably smell it before you
see it!
Once you have arrived, you will be familiarized with the bow and
arrow and given time to practice and even compete a bit. This will
be followed by a snack to keep up your stamina. You know those
French - the best food!
I promise that there are no snakes in the "Canal of the
Snakes" - at least they banished all the pythons years ago.
Seriously, the next portion is an aquatic exploration through the
canal.
You will move on from there and go with the flow, of water that
is, upwards! That's what Muriel says. Really upwards following the
flow into numerous basins and natural jacuzzis. I think it's time
for a reward!
How about an picnic in the floral garden? Good, because that's
what you're about to enjoy accompanied by an apertif. And, after a
short rest, you have a choice of kayaking in the basins, exploring
nearby, or just an extended rest under a mango tree.
For sure, this will be one day you will not easily forget.
If this tour is taken on a Thursday, there is a possibility to
participate with local fisherman at an authentic OUASSOUS FISHING
(creole crayfish). |

This
is a real hike, through the most beautiful land in the Caribbean.
You will be transported from the pier to South Basse-Terre,
arriving within an hour or so at the point of departure for the
trek. First an uphill walk of over an hour to get to the summit of
the volcano. (It's still active, by the way). It is not a
difficult walk with the exception of the last 15 minutes, where
you will encounter some large rocks and boulders. From the summit,
you will have the best view in the Caribbean. Can you see the
island of Dominica?
A light meal will be given before returning back to the pier. Your
ride back should be full of conversations of your conquest |
