JUNGLE
CANOPY AND TROPICAL BEACHES TOUR
INFO
|
For
a great combination of physical activity and relaxation,
this tour can't be beat. Relax and enjoy the views of the
Costa Rican countryside on the 60-70 minute ride from the
cruise ship pier to the starting point of the canopy tour.
Once you arrive, it's time for the activity portion. After
receiving your equipment and a safety briefing to make sure
you're comfortable, your tree-top adventure begins. You'll
feel the adrenaline rush as you zip via sturdy cables from
platform to platform, beginning in the tree tops and gliding
your way down to the beach.
Your guide will help you identify the wildlife you are
likely to see from your unique tree top perspective. Another
view you might not expect is the viewing of the Bri-Bri
Indian Village, home of an aboriginal family, who still
lives in the traditional thatched home.
After the zip line, you've earned some time to relax again,
with a break for a snack of tropical fruit, soft drink or
coffee at a local lodge and some time to relax at their
beach. You may even see a monkey or two!
As you make your way back to the pier, you'll stop for about
an hour at a beautiful, tropical beach with calm clear
waters for swimming, shops for browsing and restaurants if
you're hungry or thirsty. A final stop at a banana
plantation, including a tour of the packing house, rounds
out the tour and leaves you with wonderful memories of your
visit to Costa Rica

Take this tram through the
rainforest for an incredible experience. On this trip, you must
consider your travel to the tram as part of the incredible experience
as you take the interior roads to the starting point. The ride to this
point is two hours, allowing you to absorb the lifestyle as you travel
and surely allow you a nap on your return ride. The Rain Forest Aerial
Tram is located on a 1,000-acre, private nature reserve. You will
travel through the Braulio Carrillo National Park along the main road
which connects the capital with the Atlantic.
You will have a naturalist with you, which is in integral part of this
tour. A good guide will stand out and leave you in awe wanting more.
The best guides do get professionally trained at the local
universities as this is a big industry in Costa Rica.
The tram takes visitors on a fascinating tour through the rain forest
canopy and its hanging gardens of plants and animals hidden at the
tops of tall tropical trees. Home to two-thirds of all rain forest
species, the canopy is a little-known world of tremendous beauty and
extraordinary biological diversity. You will enjoy a 1 1/4-hour ride
in the tram and time for an optional nature walk. |

Visit this park, known for its
mahogany trees, then a beach and butterflies, for a perfect day. Begin this day visiting the
park created to protect this country's largest coral reef. One hundred
twenty-three species of fish have been listed here, along with a
variety of corals and other invertebrates. The park also protects an
example of tropical moist forest, along with swamps forest and
marshland. Cahuita is a perfect place for those who want to enjoy the
sun, the sand and a beach in the Caribbean Sea.
Upon arrival to Cahuita Town, we will get into the park for a nature
walk and enjoy the rich biodiversity of the area, along a flat and
shady trail that runs along the shoreline. Monkeys, iguanas, birds,
caymans and many other species are very common to see during this
tour. Beach time will be included for all those interested. Changing
rooms and showers are available at the park.
After adequate time, you will move on to the fascinating butterfly
farm, where you will see butterflies in various stages of development.
During another short nature walk into the rain forest, learn about
medicinal plants. Imagine discovering new fragrances, new flavors and
the origins of some that you have already experienced, but have not
known much about-and doing this in the middle of the exuberant
rainforest, surrounded by an intense array of wild leaves and flowers.
More to learn and so you will move on for a visit to a banana
plantation and its packing house. Costa Rica is the second largest
producer of the bananas and seeing the process of everything that
happens before you slice a banana into your cereal is again
unbelievable.
This reserve is located close to Estero Negro, where you will
experience an amazing canoe trip with our guide, getting close to a
variety of wildlife.
Although not included in the price, you will have the chance to stop
at a very nice local restaurant for lunch |

Walk the most beautiful
part of this coastline and enjoy a swim. This trip to Cahuita will
introduce you to an area just a bit southeast of Limón. A good
portion of the area is part of the Parque Nacional Cahuita, which is a
small peninsula with beautiful stretches of sandy beach. The status of
national park protects the coral reefs, the marine life, and all the
wildlife indigenous to the area. Cahuita, from the indigenous words
kawe (mahogany) and ta (point), was created in 1970 particularly to
protect the country’s largest coral reef. One hundred twenty-three
species of fish have been listed here, and that is just the beginning
of what you will see.
Your leisurely nature walk will show you the biodiversity here. You
will see sloths, monkeys, iguanas, and a variety of birds you are
unlikely to encounter elsewhere as you walk along a flat and shady
trail that runs along the shoreline.
You will have about an hour for lunch (not included in the price of
the tour) and another hour to enjoy at the beach. There are changing
facilities, showers, and restrooms at the beach for your use. |

You will think you took four
tours here, in this combination of the best of Limon. For this
trip, you will experience the Tortuguero Canals in a small covered
boat. Tortuguero is a little village at the edge of the national park.
This area is an important breeding ground of the green sea turtle. Of
the eight species of marine turtles in the world, six nest in Costa
Rica.
You will also make a stop a fascinating butterfly farm. Here you will
see many butterflies in various stages of development.
Banana production is huge in Costa Rica and one of your stops is at a
banana plantation. Here you will learn about America's favorite fruit
and how it grows. You will be able to see how these people have
learned to pack them so they arrive without any brown spots - a real
art.
Last is a stop at Cahuita, a small village known for its beautiful
beaches. These stretches of sand are part of the Parque Nacional
Cahuita, a small peninsula to the south of town. Along with the
beaches, you will be able to see, hear, and taste the Creole culture
which is prominent here. |

It's
the Venice of Costa Rica. Enjoy the canals and the city itself.
You will see instantly why this area is called the Amazon of Costa
Rica. The moist heat provides a flourishing rainforest which
surrrounds the Tortuguero Canal, making it rich with exotic flora and
fauna. A quick bus ride through small villages and countryside of
plantations will bring you to the Moin Wharf.
The boats you will take through the canals have covered areas to shade
you from the heat. These boats will take a quiet, 2-hour cruise
through the canals, allowing you to see and feel the dense environment
that provides a home to exotic animals and plants. Monkeys,
crocodiles, sloths and toucans should be hanging out waiting for you
to snap their photo.
Three species of monkey are frequently sighted. More than 400 species
of bird inhabit the area, including the magnificent frigate bird and
the royal tern. Caymans, a variety of snakes, and amphibians are
living here as well.
Freshwater turtles line up on logs by the riverbank to sun.
Once you complete your cruise, you will return to Puerto Limon for a
city tour. Your guide will also direct you to souvenir stores, and
please know that they do this for your comfort. They do not make
commission on sales, but promote the craftsmen and storeowners who are
locals making a living. |
