Go
where no other tours go- STRAIGHT UP-on this exciting guided
adventure. This exciting 4x4 off-road tour was the first of
its kind on Antigua when it began in 1991 and is still the best!
It is designed to show visitors the quieter parts of the island,
and to share its natural beauty and history.
Travel from sea level to one of the island's highest points where
you will have a panoramic view of the Island. Visit Fort George on
the top of Monks Hill which was the last bastion for the military
and civilians in the event of an attack by the French. The Fort
overlooks the historical Nelson's Dockyard.
Do bring along your swim gear as we finish the tour with a swim at
Darkwood Beach on the west coast, one of Antigua's most popular
beaches.
You will see sights that not many others have the opportunity to
see. The vehicles used are 4x4's that seat 6 passengers, keeping
the tour more exclusive and personal. |

This
unique eco-adventure could very well be the highlight of your
whole trip!Kayakers of all abilities are welcome to experience the
beauty, the nature and the fun of this half day trip. You will
take a 25 minute drive from the ship's dock through the local
villages and serene countryside before arriving at an
Antiguan-style house at Seatons Village on the East Coast. From
the clubhouse, take a short ride by power boat to begin your kayak
adventure. Your experienced guide will explain basic paddling
techniques for your 2 person sit-on-top style kayak before you set
off for the "middle of nowhere" to a mangrove habitat.
You'll visit inlets, coves and tiny uninhabited islands, home to
turtles, stingray, parrot fish, and many other beautiful sea
creatures. After almost an hour of kayaking, if you still have
energy left, you may participate in a friendly kayak race (do your
best, there will be awards for the winners!).
You'll board the power boat again for the ride to the North Sound
Marine Park, including a stop at uninhabited Bird Island. Here
you'll enjoy an easy hike to a cliff top cave to view nesting
grounds of off shore birds and see rare animals and gorgeous
vistas. Bird Island is also known for it's spectacular reef, so
strap on your snorkel gear and explore the undersea wonders. If
you're a first time snorkeler, your patient guide will be happy to
instruct you in the proper technique. If relaxing on the beach is
more your style, you may take this time to build a sand castle or
bury your toes in the soft white sand.
Heading back to the Antiguan clubhouse, you will find freshly made
banana bread, rum and fruit punch and refreshing aromatherapy
towels waiting for you. And the moment you've all been waiting
for...awards for the winner of the kayak race will be presented!!

An
amazing trip. Antigua's North Coast and its pristine eco system,
by Antigua's foremost ecologist.Boat along the scenic Leeward side
of Antigua towards the North coast and here you will find the
pristine eco-system of the North Sound area and its interesting
history. We zigzag through the reef along Maid Island, and on
towards historic Parham Harbour, one of the oldest colonial towns
in Antigua, and home to a healthy mangrove habitat.
We continue cruising along to Guiana Island, one of the last
undisturbed eco-systems on Antigua, with its beautiful mangrove
and reef habitats. Here we enjoy the amazing variety of wild life
both above and under the warm protected waters. Turtles, Frigate
Birds, Herons, Pelicans, Spotted Eagle Rays, Sting Rays,
Barracuda, and Osprey are a few of the inhabitants.
From Guiana Island we briefly enter into the Atlantic Ocean on our
way to an area the locals call heavena. Here the water turns an
amazing azure between Pelican Island and the mainland off Seatons.
We anchor here for a special snorkeling tour.
After our intimate guided snorkeling where we point out all of the
interesting aspects of the coral reef, we zoom back to Guiana
Island's North Beach where we stop in proper Robinson Crusoe-like
surroundings for lunch.
After a buffet lunch and some relaxation on this beautiful beach,
we navigate through the reef towards the famous "Hell's
Gate". Here you will have a choice of snorkeling once again,
or for the more adventurous, a little expedition to explore Hells
Gate's hidden caves. After drinks and a little swim, we are on our
way back along the North Coast toward the setting sun. |

This
great combination of fascinating history and physical activity
will keep everyone happy. Your guide, Jane, was recommended
by Mrs. Nicholson, and you are so lucky to have someone with her
knowledge to show you around. You'll be able to see the
countryside of Antigua as you travel from St. John's to English
Harbour. But first a stop above the harbour at the romantic ruins
of Shirley Heights where the 18th-century Governor Shirley lived
in grand style.
Your next stop will be Nelson's Dockyard. Antigua was claimed for
England in 1632 by a landing party from neighboring St. Kitts. It
remained British until 1981, when it became independent. Here,
Nelson's Dockyard was an important naval center for England and it
remains one of the Caribbean's most popular harbors for yachts.
A special guided tour of the Maritime Museum is presented by a
maritime historian. This museum was founded and restored by
Desmond Nicholson, our inspiration for this tour. This
entertaining talk is followed by a liquid refreshment. Desmond's
daughter, Nancy, a professional potter, will have her pieces on
display and for sale in the museum. After your drink, your next
stop is at the "water cachement" where you can find
signatures dating back to 1730.
Your day continues with stops at Windsor Hill and the Middle
Ground area for an approximate 40 minute walk/hike on a beautiful,
somewhat rugged, nature trail. This area has just been made
available for touring to the public and we are delighted to be the
first to offer a special tour guide knowledgeable in its history.
Enjoy breathtaking views, flora & fauna and end up at lovely
Pigeon Point Beach for a welcome drink and a delicious lunch of
grilled fish or chicken.
After lunch, a stroll down the beautiful beach and a swim in the
pristine waters can be enjoyed or simply relax in the sun and work
on a tan. More scenic views of the island can be enjoyed on the
return trip to your cruise ship.

Antigua's
maritime history comes alive with a fascinating tour and lecture
by a maritime historian. Your guide, Jane, was recommended by Mrs.
Nicholson, and you are so lucky to have someone with her knowledge
to show you around. She will fill you in on tidbits of Antigua as
you travel from St. John's to English Harbor. Your guided tour
leads you through a countryside of rolling hills and quaint
villages to the historical sites of Nelson's Dockyard and Shirley
Heights.
Your first stop is Nelson's Dockyard for a guided tour and a
lecture by a Maritime Historian at the museum. A welcome drink can
be enjoyed at one of the restaurants as you delight in your
surroundings. English Harbor is awesome. I found myself
fantasizing about scenes of the past while sitting there.
The time spent at the museum will give you some background for the
next event - a rare lecture by the world-renown Desmond
Nicholson*, the man credited with the restoration of the
dockyards. Desmond's daughter, Nancy, a professional potter, will
have her pieces on display and for sale in the museum.
Then, a drive to Shirley Heights for spectacular views of English
Harbour. Your guide will point out various ruins and historical
sites and will answer any questions you may have.
Scenic views of the island can be enjoyed on the return trip to
the ship.
* Since Mr. Nicholson is almost as old as the Dockyards itself, we
reserve the right at times to substitute a maritime historian for
